I'm trying learn all i can about getting an SBA loan, or any kind of capital, to buy a small business. There's lots of info on what the loan is and things to consider, but what are the mechanics to this process?

+1 on Live Oak. You can also go direct to the SBA and get a list of approved SBA lenders in your geographic region. They also have a lender matching option: https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/lender-match. Call them all. They are easy to find, by design.
