What is your experience in due diligence while searching or investing in smart metering technologies? I am interested in both, manufacturing of devices, designed based on OGP (open grid protocol) as well as integration and after installation services.

Smart meters are a big investment in the US because there are huge subsidies given to publicly owned utilities for energy conservation. Customer concentration tends to be high though because they are bought in huge batches by the utilities.

Aside from what Mark pointed out in regards to concentration and mostly public sector buyers (i.e. lengthy and stringent RFP process - these are huge risks!), I would also diligence any required IT related standards or protocol on the horizon specifically around compatibility with other IOT framework and security.
