Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to this community and new the world of search fund in general. Before I get into my actual question, let me first share a bit about my background. I started my career as a software engineer and gradually moved into the Product Management side. As a Product Manager, I have worked in various industries such as Retail, Healthcare, Insurance and Financial Services. I completed my MBA from the University of Oxford in September 2019.

I am keen to work with companies that focus on the financial wellness of employees. Geographically, I am interested in companies that serve the Asian continent.

Now, I know this is a very high-level idea of what I want to do, and I am more than happy to talk about it in more detail. My knowledge of search fund is limited to my research over internet majorly and hopefully, I will learn more about this from the community.

I will just like to quickly address why I am interested in Search Funds:

Because it will provide me with the funds to search for companies that I am keen to work on. It is easier to modify something already built and has some traction, compared to building something from scratch.

Looking forward to hearing back from you all and learn more.

Thanks.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply and welcome to the community. I completely understand your concern and kind of am on the same boat. I think creating a search fund implies having professional help as/when needed. So, my idea is that search fund will have a part-time Finance person in the team to do the due diligence as that will be a significant part of the process. This is more for the advanced stuff though as I think I should be capable of checking the basic financials. For example, industry analysis of EBITDA and comparing that with the company in context can be possibly done by me, but that may not be true for earning outcome related checks.

If what I said, doesn’t make sense to you, please let me know. I will love to initiate conversations with fellow search funders.

Thanks.

Hi Arijit - I'm new to the community as well, and I'm trying to learn more about the search fund process. One of my biggest concerns about pursuing a search fund is my lack or professional finance experience. I've obviously learned the basics of finance in my MBA program, but that's different than applying those learnings to the real world. How are you preparing to address the financial reviews and financial projections you'll be taking on in your upcoming search?
