INTRO – SELF-FUNDED SEARCHER W/FINANCE BACKGROUND

Good morning Searchfunder Community,

My name is Rob Kufel. I am currently contemplating launching a self-funded search. My background is in investment banking and private equity. I’ve spent the last few years working in private equity. While I enjoyed working on new deals, many of my favorite experiences were working with the portfolio companies. This interest is what led me to this community.

I am a little nervous about not having any true operating experience. It would be great to connect with folks who have a similar background to mine and have successfully acquired a business. In addition, I know there are several lenders on the platform. It would be helpful if we could set up a time to talk through the SBA 7(a) loan process.

Background • RedCloud Capital, Associate (2019 – 2020): Sourced and evaluated new investment opportunities. Led the due diligence and financing processes for new deals. Supported existing portfolio companies with reporting, strategic planning, budgeting, and special projects. • Patricia Industries, Investment Analyst (2018 – 2019): Assessed investment opportunities and performed deep industry research to find target opportunities. Assisted legacy venture portfolio with special projects and exit opportunities. • Stifel, Investment Banking Analyst (2015 – 2018): Primary responsibilities included preparing valuation and marketing materials, pitchbook creation, financial modeling, technology industry research, managing due diligence processes, and communicating with clients and counterparties to facilitate deal execution • Education: Binghamton University, B.S. in Financial Engineering (2015)

Type of Search • Self-Funded – SBA 7(A) Loan • Broker Focused Search • Targeted Geographies

Ideal Target • Manufacturing, distribution, or services business • B2B preferable, but open to B2C • $300k - $1mm EBITDA • Simple enough business given my limited operating background

Geography • Rocky Mountain Region, particularly Colorado • Western New York
