Interns vs Virtual Assistants

I've seen some old posts on this topic, but wondering how it has evolved over the past couple of years - does anyone have experience working with both? What elements of your search did you involve them in, and which was more effective?

If you are looking for a VA, squared away is a really great resource. The VAs are Military spouses. In general with either an intern or VA you have to be very specific with what you are looking for them to do. Disappointment is the result of poor communication and planning.

I'm looking for an intern. I've worked with dozens of Virtual Assistants and feel like they are too general for what I'm looking for (personally).

I want to hire an intern to be laser focused and at least be someone interested in the profession and market.
