International Business Verification

An international business I have an equity stake in is looking to source (livestock) from another overseas company.  The owner wants to verify the legitimacy of the overseas business before sending a deposit.  Does anyone know a company that can perform the due diligence or is there a way the transaction can be insured?

It would help if you tell us the country. Many countries have different government entities where a company has to legally register. However, it would be safer to make purchases overseas via a "letters of credit" through your bank and the seller's bank.
