How did you decide between pursuing a "passion-oriented" business vs. a "market-trend/growth" business? What factors did you weigh?

A bit like ikigai - need a) passion / purpose and b) high quality, durable biz. I'd argue you need the former as a necessary condition to drive the latter - you're going to be in the trenches so need to be excited (perhaps) about the particular type of biz (e.g., B v. C, sector). You'll be able to marry the two.

As for me, I just like good businesses - all the search criteria you know. I find energy abstracting to those traits - positioning, conversion, good ROIC record + ROIIC runway - plus get excited about the post-acq value creation strat + the highs / lows of running a biz with a lot on the line, Sewage or software - all just businesses.
