I'm interested in learning more about transportation and warehousing (or, maybe, logistics in general), but I'm finding there's not a lot of "obvious" sources for actually learning about these industries. I'm trying to get in contact with people in the industry now to talk with them about it, but I'm curious if anyone has any pointers they'd want to share for this.

I'm specifically focusing on smaller logistics companies ($1m to $50m revenue) in the US in the context of acquiring such a business. I'm trying to get a grip on what day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, year-to-year, etc., operations look like, as well as what typical financials look like. Basically anything to help me navigate these conversations with people in this industry.

Thanks!

Also came here to recommend freightwaves and similar sites. Would also start reading the 10ks of various shipping/transportation companies. Big ones include XPO, CEVA, K&N, Maersk, CEVA, etc. Some companies do all parts of the supply chain, most specialize in an area. Been in the business for 15 years operating various business units if you want to chat more.

I have extensive experience from a corporate standpoint, having run warehouses and transportation in my past, both in union and non-union environments. Feel free to reach out, I would be happy to jump on a call. There are few useful books or courses on the industry in my experience but the best news site is definitely Freightwaves.
