Ice Hockey Rink

As everyone who knows me I am an avid Hockey player, who only recently retired from hockey after 30 years playing in two leagues, and saw my rink sold 3X during that time, as well as discussing rink management with many others (as an M&A advisor, I was always curious for myself), I can tell you its not that simple. Although each rink is different, as a general rule of thumb, its difficult to turn an operating profit on rink time alone, and many rinks make their year strictly on hockey/figure skating equipment sales, related clothing sales, tournaments, and food/liquor sales if there is a bar. The latter being of particular importance because the margins are good. Also, in a rink, having at least 2 sheets for both leagues and free time are important. Study the financials carefully, pay careful attention to the demand for hockey in the area (more in the north vs south), temperature of the region as it will impact the largest cost - energy/utilities, and growth patterns.
