I am looking for insight into how folks have found sweat equity operating partners.

I want to connect with an ambitious operator interested in earning equity in a commercial drywall company. I own a complimentary business and want to expand into drywall.

Intros or suggestions are appreciated!

I like Karan's idea here and it's where I would start too. By finding someone who's an amazing technician, and likely exhausted by the business end of it, you get a partner with entrepreneurial experience (they know how challenging it can be) and will be thrilled to transition to an intrapreneur. Long way to say "find someone who's really good at drywall and really bad at marketing and start conversations."

In doing so, you'll want to be very clear about your area of genius and ensure that they're clear about theirs as well. You'll want to know that you complement each other in the most important ways, and obviously have a clear match of core values.

Let me know if you want to brainstorm about some additional ideas.

Thanks for the tag ^redacted‌. Having the right operator and making sure their incentives align with yours is one of the most difficult tasks, specially when the deal size in $1mm EBITDA range. A typical successful operator is most likely going to be running their own show. If that is not the case, then you are hiring a glorified employee with industry experience vs. an operator who knows how to get shit done.

One way to look for operator in your industry is to zero in on the solo founders already operating in the same industry as yours and make them an offer that they join you, think something in lines of aqui-hiring
