Has “email bloat” slowed down or nearly killed one of your SMB deals?

You know the feeling:
🚫 Hundreds of messages across months (or years).
🚫 Critical points buried in long threads.
🚫 Everyone remembers things slightly differently.
🚫 The big-picture momentum gets lost in the daily noise.
Are you (or they) missing the forest for the trees?
Last week I fed 435 emails, between my client and me, from our 5-year history of SMB acquisitions, into GenAI, asking asked AI to:
- Summarize the entire history of conversations (which captured advisory team interactions, research, etc.)
- Map the evolution of key topics and scope
- Identify communication patterns and friction points
- Profile the personalities and decision-making styles of every key player
(Anonymizing info, protecting identities, etc. Using code names as necessary.)
AMAZING RESULTS
A crisp 5-page report that took <10 minutes to generate.
The client and I could easily recollect and realistically see the same “movie” of the deals—where we started, what shifted, what (and who) was working, and what tiny recurring issues were quietly interfering with relationship-building and ensuring trust.
Suddenly we weren’t debating whose memory was right.
☺️ We have a clearer picture of the people we rely upon, some of which also rely upon us.
☺️ We (and some of them) are aligned on reality. It will accelerate and smooth our next steps with confidence.
Bottom line:
AI turned into instant strategic clarity the hours/days/weeks/never of “let me search my email history.”
If you’re buying or selling a lower-middle-market business, this kind of exercise is becoming table stakes.
❓ How are you using AI to cut through communication chaos and close SMB deals faster?
