Has Anyone Taken the Operator-to-Search Fund Path?

I’m interested in breaking into the independent sponsor or PE space as an operator to build a track record before launching my own search fund. I’m based in Dallas, TX, with a background in finance and operations.

I believe proving my capabilities through hands-on experience will give me credibility for larger opportunities down the line—rather than just making claims verbally.

Has anyone here taken this route? Any advice on how to best approach this or find opportunities to start with smaller projects first?
