Hi Searchfunder Community,

Curious if there is anyone that has acquired a black car service, or anyone that currently operates one?

Hoping to hear about software used, daily operations, and key operating metrics/KPI's to get a sense of the business.

Thanks,
Andrew

I do (mostly NEMT) medical transportation and am considering expanding the sedan service into a car service. Following for any other input to your question. In Maryland, our business & wheelchair van drivers have to be licensed the same as for-hire drivers so there could be some overlap. I am trying to model the capex versus income differences between ambulances, wheelchair vans, sedan, and black car services. In the NEMT industry a key KPI is Unit Hour Utilization which (generally) defined as the number of hours the vehicle is generating revenue. I did work for a company where they qualified the revenue generation as over the gross operating costs. If examining UHU utilization data, remember that a car that is assigned on a standby paid hourly would be a 1.0 for that hour which is great but more likely to be at a lower revenue per hour since it might be specially priced to that event and not driving / using fuel / wear & tear. Just a few stream of conscience thoughts.
Are you thinking of bolting onto air charter? Do you do medical air charter?

Hi Joe. I prefer to avoid medical air charter (the stress is through the roof). I operate an on-demand charter brokerage, and have been in the industry a few years. So we do charter today, and know how heavily utilized black car services are/can be in a tertiary or secondary markets with heavy traffic into their local FBO's. We saw a potential target in FL, but there was some "stuff" where the business was not quite what I/we would want to pursue.
