So the government is back up and running, which means SBA activity should start to pick back up. But let’s keep expectations realistic. Just because the lights are back on does not mean your PLP number or authorization will magically appear on day one. The SBA has been closed for the longest it's ever been, and every 7(a) lender, CDC, and borrower has been stacking submissions during that time. When the queue opens today, it will not be a trickle. It will be a flood. Lenders who rely on SBA approvals, portal access, or PLP numbers will all be competing for attention at the same time. The system will likely take a bit to catch up, and even routine requests could take longer than usual. That is simply the reality when government operations restart after a pause. This is where patience and preparation matter. If your deal is already through underwriting and ready to submit, that is great. Just understand that everyone else’s is too. Your lender is not sitting idle. They are managing dozens of borrowers, each with timelines and expectations. The good ones are still working behind the scenes to position files for a fast push once the SBA reopens. So hang tight. If your PLP number or authorization does not hit today, it is not a red flag. It is just the system catching its breath. SBA lending has always rewarded persistence and calm execution. Now, it is no different.

Hi ^redacted‌ - nice to meet you and great question. You are exactly right that things will not move instantly. A lot of buyers assume that once the shutdown ends, PLP numbers and authorizations show up the same day. In reality, lenders have been underwriting throughout the pause, so once the SBA portal reopens there is a wave of files waiting to be submitted. Even simple requests take longer because the system is clearing a backlog. Regardless, I have spoken to a couple of lenders, and getting the PLP number usually only takes a day or two. The key message for buyers is that this does not change deal timelines. All of the substantive work still happens before the PLP number, including tax return review, cash flow sizing, DSCR testing, and collecting documents. The PLP number is administrative. As long as your lender already has you through underwriting and is just waiting for submission access, you are still in a strong position. We have a lot experience financing SBA backed acquisitions. If you ever need help talking through a deal, I am happy to help. We work with all the major SBA lenders. The bank pays us after your loan closes, so this is a 100 percent free service for you.
