GM Ops Intern - Vertical SaaS (Part-Time, School Year, Remote)
-
Remote
Confidential (vertical SaaS)
·
Austin, TX, USA
Duration: redactedacademic year (start ASAP, through May 2027, option to continue)
Hours: ~15-20 hours/week, flexible around your class schedule
Compensation: $2,000/month
Location: Remote
ABOUT THE ROLE
One of our partners has a stake in a small vertical SaaS CRM and embedded payments platform serving the US home services industry. We are looking for an MBA intern to act as the de facto general manager of this business during the school year - running day-to-day operations and finance, handling customers, shipping product improvements with AI coding agents, and getting the next growth programs off the ground. This is a generalist operating seat, not a functional lane and not a research project.
The business already runs heavily on AI internally (Claude Code, internal agents) and we are pushing that into the product itself. You will be expected to work the same way, reaching for AI tools by default across finance, writing, analysis, and product.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is real operating work, and a lot of it. You will be the one reconciling the books, getting on calls with customers, writing the feature spec and then shipping it, and building the referral or financing program from scratch. The team is lean and there is no support staff between you and the work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations & Finance
- Own day-to-day operations, including relationships with current customers
- Run company finances: bill pay, payroll, vendor relationships, monthly financial statements
Process & Systems
- Continuously tighten how the business runs as it scales: team cadences, sales process, accounting and finance systems
Product
- Turn customer and market feedback into clear feature requirements for the CRM and payments platform
- Ship product improvements directly using AI coding agents (Claude Code and our internal agent)
Growth
- Design and launch demand-gen programs: customer referrals, community initiatives, targeted marketing campaigns
- Stand up the pipeline tracking and reporting to make them repeatable
Revenue Expansion
- Build complementary revenue streams off the existing customer base, starting with financing/lending (partner selection, pricing, launch)
- Evaluate additional monetization levers as extensions of the core product
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current MBA student (first or second year)
- High ownership and a bias to action; comfortable doing whatever the day requires, from reconciling an invoice to closing out a customer call
- Comfortable in ambiguity, where the org chart won't tell you what to do next
- Strong communicator; you will be dealing directly with customers, vendors, and partners
- Fluent with AI tools as part of how you actually work, not just for building features but for research, writing, analysis, finance, and operations
- Sharp analytical instincts: financial modeling, unit economics, reading a P&L
- A builder's mindset: you would rather ship the feature, process, or program than write a plan for someone else to execute
- Real interest in operating, or eventually owning, a small business, vertical SaaS, or a search-fund style acquisition
- Background in vertical SaaS, embedded fintech/payments, home services/contracting, or private equity is a plus, not required
WHY THIS ROLE
This is a chance to run a real, growing business as its general manager while you finish your degree. You won't be shadowing anyone or sitting in meetings. You will touch the books, the customers, the product, the cap table, and the next stage of growth. It is the kind of ownership usually reserved for founders, search-fund operators, and small-cap private equity, inside a structured part-time engagement.
