For Self funded - what are the safest types of companies to buy? (industry, EBITDA etc.). I'm a bit concerned about the personal risk factor with an SBA loan.

Make a list of potential industries you want to enter. There's a wonderful IBISWorld tab on searchfunder ;). Do as much research as possible. Then talk with business owners in each industry.

Just curious - is it common for a funder to bring on an operational partner with experience who get a slice of the deal? Sort of like a fractional CTO/CFO in the startup world where these folks may help a few startups at one time.
