Family business to Holding Co model

Curious to hear from anyone who has joined a family business (either their own or through acquisition) and used it as a platform for launching a holding company. What are the structures you put in place to maintain the successful operations of the original company? What legal structure did you use to pull the original acquisition and additional acquisitions under the holdco?
I would also love any thoughts from searchers who are considering developing a holdco model with their first acquisition.

Pretty interested in following this path in future too. Another angle I've thought about is using search-related strategies in order to acquire a family business (as in, making it a family business with your current family members), and growing from there into other acquisitions/hold co model down the line,
