Excited to Join – A UK Broker’s Shift to Tech Searcher

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to join this community! I'm based in the UK and come from a tech M&A brokerage background, having worked across sectors like eCommerce, SaaS, and Media. I've been involved in over 50 successful transactions, mostly with US buyers. In recent years, I shifted my focus to acquiring 'micro' tech companies and assets in the 5–6 figure range using my own capital. (I know, all-cash deals might not have been the smartest move, but I was eager to get started!) My initial approach was driven by my own limiting beliefs around the UK debt market when targeting tech companies.

While my track record is modest compared to some of the larger deals here, a fellow search funder on LinkedIn directed me to this community, praising it as a great place to connect with investors and other ETA professionals. My main focus is on acquiring scalable, "moat-like" tech businesses—such as SaaS, niche communities, and eCommerce brands with recurring revenue. I'm also open to service businesses, though I’d ideally stick to tech.

Since joining a few months ago, I've learned a lot and found it much more challenging being on this side of the fence compared to my days as a broker. I'm still deciding between a self-funded search fund and an independent sponsor model, with my target deals ranging from $300k SDE to $2MM EBITDA—taking on opportunities one deal at a time.
