Hey everyone, I'm considering exploring an opportunity for an excavation business. Anyone have experience in this area? I've worked in construction and project management for a decent part of my career but looking to understand the intricacies of these types of businesses at the SMB level. Looking forward to connecting

Hi ^redacted‌ - nice to meet you. This area is something I am quite familiar with: Keeping equipment busy is everything. Excavators, loaders, and trucks are expensive. If they sit idle, profits disappear fast. Good operators focus on steady backlog and tight scheduling so machines and crews are working consistently. One mistake can wipe out profits. Injuries, utility hits, or safety violations can be extremely costly. Strong safety practices and compliance aren’t optional - they protect cash flow and keep insurance costs under control. Repeat customers matter more than winning bids. The best excavation businesses rely on ongoing relationships with general contractors, utilities, and municipalities. Repeat work is more predictable and profitable than chasing one-off jobs. If you use an SBA loan to buy a business like this and it’s an asset purchase, the lender will closely review the equipment. They will care about how old it is, what it’s really worth, and whether it transfers cleanly. Older or highly specialized equipment may not get much credit, even if it looks valuable on paper. We have a lot experience financing these types of companies via the SBA. If you ever need help talking through a deal, I am happy to help. We work with all the major SBA lenders. The bank pay us after your loan closes, so this is a 100% free service for you.You can email me directly at redacted or schedule a meeting with me: https://cal.com/francodeguzman/30min. Look forward to chatting!

As a former contractor who sold his business and many other construction companies since (while keeping a Ford 555 on my property :), my general advice for buying/selling in this industry: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7401290765638848512?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAADHTc4BDoH8KGNJaJdlHKW-luzirYK1Hxw
