If you are conducting your search as a full-time employee of your own search company, do you pay yourself employee benefits such as health insurance? Or do you get your insurance through the ACA? What about other benefits, such as life insurance or a 401K?

I believe this will depend on your investor's agreement and the funds and timeline they have agreed with you. By having benefits while you search, you eliminate the effort you will expend in providing these benefits after the acquisition. Plus, the provider of these benefits now may be best suited to provide all the benefits to your employees of the acquired company. You will certainly have plenty of other matters to deal with. Also, when you have acquired your first company, you should provide yourself with fair market value compensation and benefits.

I use my Amex Platinum for one free year access to WeWork. WeWork members get access to a ton of great employee benefit programs to choose from that are pretty reasonable. Life insurance is available at a very low cost(https://www.policygenius.com), Retirement(SEP, IRA, etc) are easy to set up through TD ameritrade or other providers(speak to your accountant). I am the only employee of my company, at the moment, as everyone/thing else is outsourced! Hopefully this changes before my free year of WeWork is up.
