Reviewing deal. Owner does all estimating. Four foreman (no superintendent) on total FTE’s team of 15. Union shop.

Estimating seems like a learned skill not easily taken on. Do superintendents do this or only manage project teams? Are project managers utilized in this construction segment?

any insight is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Jared - it really depends on the size/complexity of the work the company does. Does the company bid to a GC or do they contract directly with the owner of the project? Supers can be very helpful with estimating - the problem is they're typically busy running the jobs already won. Feel free to reach out direct to discuss further.

My background is the construction industry. Without estimating experience you will not be able to fill this owner’s shoes in a timely manner. To make this business marketable to a non-construction industry buyer, there has to be a competent estimator in the company after close.
