Hello,

I am looking at a pharmacy for sale and the broker has said they are not entertaining offers from non-pharmacists. I am lining up a close friend who is a pharmacist and looking for backups as well.

Looking for input from people in the business for how much of a stretch this is.

I’ve acquired a multi-state pharmacy and can confirm that this “pharmacists only” mindset among sellers is quite common—but it’s often negotiable. The key is understanding their concerns and structuring the deal accordingly. The main exception is when a regulatory agency has imposed this as a condition for licensure retention due to a past disciplinary action, which can make it non-negotiable.

We’ve seen this come up with pharmacy/medical deals before—lenders and brokers often want to see licensed ownership or at least a qualified operator involved. Happy to share what we’ve seen work structure-wise if it’s helpful.
