Does anyone have experience financing partnership buy-in? ($150k)

Trying to help a friend who made partner but doesn't have the liquid funds to invest at the moment. He doesn't want to ask for special treatment from the firm and asked me to help him come up with a few options. Has anyone used friends and family money or a commercial loan to fund the buy-in? Thanks in advance.
