Does anyone have any experience going straight into P.E after college?

Hi guys, 
I am currently a third year at the UVA trying to go into private equity straight out of college. Although this is not the traditional path, I was wondering if anyone else did the path and what the opportunities were in this field right after college.

I've heard that some funds do have analyst programs but its much more common to do investment banking for a couple years. Have you explored the investment banking route?
