Does anyone have any layoff/termination with severance templates they would be willing to send me?

I need it just to have better documentation. My HR solution GUSTO does not have any of those.

Best,

Josh

I'm not usually the type of lawyer that tells people that they really should hire a lawyer....but in the context of severance agreements, generally, I think it makes sense. You are paying an employee money in exchange for a promise not to sue, right? In Minnesota (and presumably other states) you need to be very clear about what rights, exactly, are being waived by the employee in order for that waiver to be valid. For some waivers to be valid, you need to state the exact name of the law and include a citation (Or so I have heard - this isn't my area of practice). State-specific guidance from an attorney you trust should be reasonably-priced as most shops will have all the specific state and federal laws readily available in their form templates. If you're already investing in severance, it probably makes sense to spend a few more bucks and make sure that money is doing what you want it to do.

***Note, I personally don't do these types of documents, in Minnesota or anywhere else, as employment law is just a little too disheartening for me. Happy to plug some referrals if anyone needs a local name or two.

I have found https://nupplegal.com/ to be pretty useful. Forms can be downloaded and edited in Word or another editor..
