Do you move fast in your search, or stay patient?

Some searchers feel pressure to move quickly. Get the outreach done, talk to owners, close a deal. But speed often leads to mistakes or wasted effort. Others take the patient route. They spend more time analyzing, building relationships, and waiting for the right deal. But then the risk is losing momentum or missing opportunities. So here’s the question: When it comes to the search journey, do you think it is better to move fast and risk mistakes, or stay patient and risk delays? Curious to hear how others in this community think about the balance.

Personally I have found that moving to fast leads to making big mistakes long term. While there is a risk of moving too slow and losing interest, I am glad that I spent the extra time to read and research as much as possible before hand. If I look at the list of deals I have put down as interested in at the beginning, almost none of them are something that I would pursue now. I guess it also depends how much background you have as well.

My advice would be to move fast at the top of the funnel (outreach, networking, initial deal screening). Test and iterate to improve efficiency over time. It is worth taking a more thoughtful approach on valuation, deal structuring and diligence to avoid the big mistakes like over paying, over levering or missing a critical DD issue.
