Do self funded searchers need a website?

For self funded searchers who created a website containing background on themselves / investment criteria, can you discuss why you decided to create a website? Did you brand yourself with a “firm” name? For those who did not, why not? Were there any instances during the search where this would have been helpful? Secondly, any other external facing “marketing” collateral that is helpful to prepare prior to formally speaking to brokers and business owners?

This is a HUGE way to build credibility with brokers - and I think its easy enough to do. The random person browsing BizBuySell while watching tv is also reaching out to the broker to ask about a deal. Having this type of collateral helps set you apart in the noise. My recommendations: - Keep it simple to a one page website. - I could go either way on brand. Just don't over complicate the name. - Have your own domain instead of gmail. Again, just makes it feel more official. - Have a 1-pager that describes your background and what you are looking for, then include it any time you submit an NDA. As soon as you get these, just get started. You can always make adjustments as you see what resonates and what objections come up in your conversations.

Websites are easy to make, and so if you don't have one you can have some adverse selection issues with potential brokers or sellers. If they (searcher) do not care enough to take an hour to make a website, then are they really serious about acquiring is something that I have heard
