distribution companies in Europe

I'm an active searcher, and I'm currently investigating some distribution companies in Europe, who are distributing the products made by an external manufacturer in a certain country or region. Does anybody has some insights or watchouts here? How important is it that they are an exclusive dealer? What are general margins and multiples in this sector?
