Did I miss my chance to start a search fund?

I am 45 and have a family. I have an MBA and fantastic strategy and operations experience, but would my age and need for ~$150k/yr to support the family be a deal breaker?

I love this question— especially the part about supporting a family. I am 45 and will be supporting my husband and four children once I raise my fund. I do think that I am a better searchfunder because of my family. I am more determined to make the investment successful because I know my family is counting on me. I’ll give my investors the same level of commitment I give my loved ones. But yeah — my salary is $150k.

I would imagine your conversations with potential sellers will be much easier than a lot of the interactions that I had as a 26 year old searcher! You will have the benefit of approaching sellers as more of a trusted peer.

Younger searchers have a different opportunity with sellers. It’s more of a next generation taking the reins dynamic — even the son or daughter they don’t have or wish they had :).
