Dealing with old equipment

Hi everyone, looking at a deal that relies on the use of 20+ year old specialty vehicles. I'm not a mechanic but the equipment looks to be well maintained and there is a mechanic on staff who has serviced them for the last 10 years that will stay on after the acquisition. How have others mitigated the risk around old equipment? Thanks!
