If you’re building anything, you know most days the goal is simple: just get 1% better.
I’m not sure it happened today. Not because the day was chaotic, but because we’ve got a couple deals in motion and I could feel that familiar pull to want answers faster than they’re going to come. Urgency sits on my right shoulder constantly, but I’ve learned that patience is something you have to choose on purpose as a founder.
The day started with dials. Some good conversations, some dead ends, all necessary when you’re trying to grow into multiple markets. One call will go nowhere, and the very next will remind you why you are doing this. That's just the game.
By midday, it was back to back calls. I checked in with our M&A advisor, Frankie. A couple of deals are moving, nothing final yet. Close enough to feel real, far enough to flex the patience muscle. Nothing’s done until the ink is on the paper.
Then a NASCAR sponsorship conversation. Yes, the racing company NASCAR. There are 229 sponsors in the world. Why not Big League Clean as the 230th? It was exciting to even consider.
Right after that, I talked with someone deep in M&A (Maria G Melone). The kind of conversation where you listen more than you talk, because they’ve already lived through the problems you’re trying to avoid and seen the landscape you’re about to travel into.
Later, I met up with a mentor. He didn’t add anything new. He actually helped me take a few things off the table. Less noise. Better focus. That alone felt the 1% win.
Wrapped it up with a poke bowl from Hawaiian Fresh Seafood. Easily some of the best in San Diego. No debate.
Driving home, the noise was quieter than it was this morning. The direction felt steady.
