Did you know that many successful searchers often target companies in industries with fragmented markets? These markets have multiple small players rather than a few dominant ones. This fragmentation can provide opportunities for operational improvements, consolidation, and scaling, making them attractive targets for searchfund acquisitions. So, when searching for a prospect, consider industries where no single player has a significant market share!

A better tip would be to differentiate the differences between a motivated seller vs a prospect. Most searchers spend too much time in their early days conversing with the wrong person.

If you don’t have a motivated seller, your industry is not highly fragmented or the EBITDA multiples are too high you are wasting your time.
