Creative role splits between business partners

I'm conducting a partnered search and doing some early thinking about role splits between the 2 of us. I know the conventional wisdom here (for good reason) would be to define clear role splits, with the classic model being one partner focused on top-line (BD, Sales, etc.) and the other on operations. We're currently under LOI with a building services business serving large multi-site commercial clients requiring routine site visits across a large metro area. We're currently thinking through potential models where we split key accounts based on size/location to allow for more efficient coverage, but we're not sure if the benefits of that would outweigh the difficulties in jointly managing ops (mainly in terms of role clarity for employees). Does anyone have any examples of alternative partnership models like this that you've seen work well?
