In addition to Buy Then Build: How Acquisition Entrepreneurs Outsmart the Startup Game written by Walker Deibel, I'd like to suggest that Learning to Build: The 5 Bedrock Skills of Innovators and Entrepreneurs by Bob Moesta should accompany it. Mr. Moesta is a principal architect, along with Harvard Business School professor Clay Christensen, of the Jobs-to-be-Done framework for innovation. Mr. Moesta is a practitioner of creating value in businesses by helping customers make progress by finding value for them in addressing struggling moments through hiring products and services under the right context. These bedrock skills should work throughout a Searcher's full lifecycle. Here's an excerpt from his book: "These are the hidden parts...that differentiate successful innovators and entrepreneurs...from being typical engineers, software developers or CEOs..." Mind you, he said “typical”, not me. I'd be interested in knowing how well Mr. Moesta's thoughts, i.e., "today is the day", resonate with Search community.
