Broker trying to talk us out of deal to buy himself…

We’ve recently spoken to a broker in the US about a business that fits our criteria. However, instead of providing information on the target, the broker used every opportunity to talk us out of the deal and then mentioned that he is trying to buy the business himself. Am I the only one who sees a clear conflict of interest here?

Brokers are not required to share offers in non-licensure (27) states and are not in licensure states (33) if they have the seller's permission to pre-vet offers.
