Best Platforms for "Off Market" Deals

Many searchers focus on brokered listings. Others master proprietary outreach. But a middle ground has also emerged: "off market" deals, listed directly by sellers. How can a business be both listed and "off-market"? Many owners are exit-curious, but not enough to hire a broker and formally going out to market. A new crop of online platforms (Rejigg, Baton, DealProspectors, a few others) recognize this gap and allow such toe-dippers to "list" their business without supplying all the data for a full CIM. I wrote down my thoughts after testing several for the last 6 months: https://evergoldpartners.com/best-platforms-for-off-market-smb-deal-flow/ TLDR; I've found that "off-market" platforms surface attractive deals with less competition than traditional brokered listings. They also provide direct access to sellers (i.e. no middlemen) for potentially improved negotiation. But that doesn't necessarily translate into lower multiples. In fact, many "off-market" / "self-listed" sellers have a high number in their head and haven't been eager enough to sell for less. All I can say is: I wish these platforms existed when I sold my last business (via a broker)!

Good stuff, Alex! Yeah, even if a seller starts lower, sooner or later in the process, many will likely get a valuation and at least want market price. However, we've seen many older, off-market sellers looking to retire and exit fast and willing to make concessions. And less competition also means the sales price hopefully won't be driven above market like the better brokered deals.
