Before the numbers: does this deal even fit you?
redacted
Most deal talk here starts with the numbers: SDE, add-backs, DSCR. But a lot of the post-mortems on this site aren't about bad numbers. They're about a business that never fit the buyer: the hours, the role the owner actually plays, a license you can't hold, a market you'd never want to live in. The numbers can be clean and the deal still wrong for you.
This 7-minute walkthrough shows how I set up a buyer profile in Verity before looking at a single listing: what you want the business to do for your life, the role you'll take on, your deal-breakers. Then each listing is scored against that profile, and the read marks which parts rest only on the seller's word.
My question for the group: what's the one criterion that kills a deal for you before you open the financials?
