Has anyone bought or currently running a commercial printing business? How is the industry? Facing any competition from overseas printers?
If you don't own one, did you ever think of getting into this industry but backed out? Why?

Really insightful comments from everyone here. The varying perspectives on the state of the commercial printing industry and the shift towards digital transformation highlight how dynamic this field is. I'm considering venturing into this industry, particularly focusing on specialized digital print services that cater to niche markets. The point about digital print for retail and decals seems particularly promising given the steady demand. I'd appreciate any advice on how to effectively navigate the initial setup phase and potential pitfalls to avoid, especially in terms of securing financing in a sector that's seeing cautious banking support. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Its an interesting business, we still sell 1 or 2 print companies per year, the multiples are low in Canada and most of the independent shops have been transitioned but there are some good ones out there. Depends on what type of print and key ends market you are looking at. Direct mail has been hammered these past few years but digital print for retail/decal is an interesting space serving some good stable customers. Some Canadian banks are not too hot for print and will not lend as much as a traditional non-print deal so factor that into your valuation approach.
