At what point in the process do you recommend involving a legal team?

I have heard "as early as possible", but realistically what does that mean? Before incorporating? Once you're ready to raise search capital? 

Any other useful details to know / things to look for before onboarding would be very helpful. Thanks!

You don't want to waste money but establishing a relationship with an attorney who has done transaction work early in your process is a plus in my book. When you need him/her, you will already be an established client, you will hopefully know you can work well with them, and it will be one less item to stress over.

I agree with all the points made above, and would add that it is important to consult with a lawyer before you bring on your first employee. That way, you can ensure that there is no confusion regarding whether that individual has an ownership interest in the venture while also protecting confidential and proprietary information.
