I have gotten a few inquiries over the years about acquiring non-profit organizations and converting them to for-profits. So when I read an article about how that is happening in the behavioral health space, I knew I should share: https://bhbusiness.com/2023/03/24/nonprofit-behavioral-health-providers-are-valuable-ma-targets-but-pe-buyers-wonder-whether-juice-is-worth-the-squeeze/

Very interesting! There are a few legal distinctions in the non=profit world. The non-profit itself as a legal entity can't be acquired and it can't be converted to a for-profit business, but a non-profit can sell its assets and take the proceeds and keep them or put them towards another non-profit. From the outside, it looks like a traditional acquisition, but the mechanics behind the scenes are much different.
