I've been reading so many of these posts with searchers who are passing on good businesses because they "don't have a strong operating system" or "aren't founder dependent" or seem too messy. That issue is real. VERY real. But the real issue in my mind is the searcher doesn't really feel confident that they know how to run and/or build a business so they're trying to buy this unicorn perfect business with an autopilot button. Buying a business is a huge investment and risk and if they're buying a business that has some warts (and they all do) they need to feel confident that they could walk into that business and know exactly what to do to build out the systems it needs to continue to grow and scale post close. If they did feel that confidence - it would feel like Black Friday with deals around every corner because everything would be on sale. You probably couldn't afford that perfect business anyway!!! The truth is that ability is there. You don't need to reinvent the wheel or figure it out as you go along. There are business operating systems that you can install that will lay out the path you should take. Proven systems like EOS. If you're searching and you haven't heard of EOS then stop what you're doing and read the book Traction. Or reach out to me and I'll give you the movie version of the book in about 60 minutes. PS - ChatGPT created a much better version of this post - but I like my bad grammar, non perfect sentence structure and poor wording choices!!

As someone who has bought a business and who runs a hybrid of EOS, I have to say that I agree wholeheartedly with the idea that searchers should really consider EOS as their operating model for running a company especially if they've not run a business before. A lot of times getting into a new company is very complex and if you haven't had P&L responsibility, it can be overwhelming. One of the things that I like about EOS is that it simplifies a lot of the business decisions and makes it clear how you're cascading strategic initiatives through the company. I would recommend Traction to any business leader, whether you have a lot of grey hair (like me) or are younger in your career.
