Anyone here in residential construction or adjacent industry branched out into commercial?
Maybe not the right forum, but worth asking - it's more of a post-acquisition question. We run a custom millwork shop, almost entirely high-end residential. Residential has been cyclical enough lately that I've started looking at commercial work to diversify and for long-term growth. You can only do so many custom homes before you lose your mind. We're in the early stages. Quoting and building out processes. What I'd like to hear from anyone who has made this move: - Did commercial actually smooth out the cycles? - What did it do to working capital? Longer holdbacks look like the thing that could hurt. - Anything you'd have done differently in the first two years? Happy to be told it was a mistake. That's useful too.
