I'm still quite new to search funds, company evaluation, sourcing for good deals, and acquiring companies.

Any practical tips or good resources to read/watch to get up to speed?

I'm specifically interested in software companies, but open to hear any feedback / opinions about other industries.

Thanks!

Start with these two books: Buy Then Build, HBR Guide To Buying A Small Business.

^redacted‌ has an incredible amount of GREAT content on his youtube for free: redacted@BuyThenBuild

^redacted‌ and ^redacted‌ have a live Q&A with Live Oak Bank during their Office Hours zoom calls: https://liveoakbank.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIsdumtqjIvHNUBSYO6eFSGQfO-rHqsrZuG

Combine those with what resources you have here and you've got everything you need.

Since you are interested in software companies, what skills do you have that will provide value to them? If you have tech skills, call them directly and ask a decision maker if they are currently doing "your skill", and if they are not, explain to them how adding your skill will be benefit their business. You can do this with any industry by the way. Cold calling is not for everyone, but with enough calls, it will work and your skills doing this will improve.
