Age of Sellers vs. Buyers: The Great Generational Hand-Off
There is a significant and predictable age gap between the typical SMB buyer and seller.
• Typical Seller Age: The vast majority of SMB owners looking to exit are in their late 50s to mid-70s. This is overwhelmingly the Baby Boomer generation (born###-###-#### ).
• Typical Buyer Age: As established, the most prevalent buyer is in their late 30s to early 50s, primarily Generation X (born###-###-#### ), with a growing contingent of older Millennials.
