Hi everyone, I'm Scot, and I’m searching full-time for a B2B compliance-driven inspection business to buy and operate. Target Parameters: - Financials: $1.35M to $1.60M in normalized EBITDA. Enterprise value between $5.5M and $6.5M (up to $7.0M for exceptional quality). - Verticals: Outsourced crane/lifting equipment, fire and life safety, industrial infrastructure, electrical testing, and environmental compliance. - Revenue Profile: Revenue driven by regulatory mandates, subscriptions, or fleet agreements. Not looking for a perfect unicorn. Completely comfortable with operational complexities like minor customer concentration or a founder who is still heavily involved in sales. Regulatory mandate can create demand, but it does not automatically create recurring revenue or operational resilience. In diligence I would trace one inspection cycle end to end: customer trigger, scheduling, technician certification, field evidence, report turnaround, remediation follow-up, invoice, and renewal. Then measure backlog age, technician utilization, first-time completion, report turnaround, reinspection rate, and days to invoice.

Founder involvement in sales may be manageable. Founder involvement in interpreting requirements, assigning technicians, or approving every report is harder because it constrains scale and transferability. I would also separate recurring inspection revenue from project or remediation revenue and test renewal by customer cohort.

Which owner dependency are you most willing to inherit, and which one would make you walk: sales, technical judgment, scheduling, or customer relationships?
