Well today's guests Meredith & Michael Schlinkert don't have that problem. Meredith was just 25, and Michael 28, when the couple started considering the prospect of buying a business. A couple years later, and they are the owners of BackgroundConnect, a background screening provider for employers and others that need to run background checks, drug tests, etc. Fascinating business: White collar, remote, great margins, something of a moat, tons of reoccurring revenue, and lots of revenue per employee. The business was generating almost a million dollars in revenue with just 3 employees. Seems like a great fit for buyers whose criteria was pretty tight: non-blue collar and had to be in their local market, Houston. And of course we also discuss going on this business-buying adventure as a couple. So this makes a perfect complement to Kristen & Gabe Perez's interview a few episodes ago. Note the contrast: Kristen & Gabe had 4 kids when they bought their business, while Meredith & Michael don't yet have any. So couples at both ends of the spectrum buying businesses.
