Acquiring established Franchise territories

Hey folks—curious if anyone here has experience in the franchise world. I recently expanded my search and have been exploring franchises with established territories.

Do you typically reach out to franchisees directly, or go through the main franchisor or brokers (or all the above)?

I know some will be listed on the usual online marketplaces, but I imagine there’s probably a lot more competition within the franchise from existing owners looking to expand their units.

Would love to connect if anyone has experience in this space!

I have an excellent (can't say enough good things) franchise consultant who was a franchisee himself and now works as a consultant specializing in reales. He's added value at every turn and I feel like he's truly trying to match me with the right franchise and looking out for -- and helping protect -- my interest rather than just trying to land a commission. You can find him at https://thefranguru.com. (I have no affiliation or financial relationship with him, other than being one of his current clients; I've just really valued his service and am eager to recommend him to others).

You could do all the above - reach out to individuals, reach out to the franchisor, reach out to brokers. There may be niche brokers for various franchise industries as well. For example, I purchased home care franchises through a broker who specializes in that space. And yes there may be competition from existing owners, but some franchisors may not want to allow owners to consolidate and own too many units. Just because there is an opportunity available doesn't mean that existing owners have passed on it.
