Accounting firm acquisition thoughts
My general thoughts are right now it feels like a great time to roll up accounting firms. An AI driven accounting firm can likely allow 1 accountant to do 3-5x the work of an accounting firm without AI. The biggest issue that I see is that the rate of change with AI is getting faster and faster. Thus unless the frontier labs slow down in a year one accountant will be able to do 10-20x the work And in another year its reasonable to think its possible they may be able to do nearly 100x the work So you might be thinking... Well where is the problem, now I have 1 person that can do the work of 100 people. The problem comes in form a supply/demand equation If the supply of accounting work goes up 100x what happens to the demand... Maybe it increases 5x in that same time period. At some point the cost and value of these services may drop as rates become competitive TLDR As frontier models get better the price and value of accounting services is likely to go down and you will be likely to need to make up for this in either volume or fewer people This isn't necessarily bad, its just more something to think about what the field will look like in 5+ years rather than the landscape of just today
