Consulting While Searching

I'm a full-time self-funded searcher. Have been thinking it would make sense to do some consulting work while searching in order to generate a small income while continuing my search. I come from an M&A and PE investing background. I've heard of searchers finding consulting opportunities, but admittedly I'm not sure where to look. Has anyone on here done the same? If so, where did you find the consulting work and what were you doing? Any recommendations or anyone in need of a consulting resource would be appreciated.

I ran YOLO Accounting while searching. And other owners of SMBs buy businesses while running their business.

The question isn't if you can, it's how you can.

Most people do search as a solo sport.

Search is way more effective as a team sport.

The following story isn't about me, it's an example of what's possible with the right mindset.

I have a team of up to 7 intern analysts, systems, processes, team culture, team leads, etc. setup so my search was run like a machine. And one person from my YOLO Accounting team working part-time on the search team.

Now we have a search machine that's ready for the next deal & others have asked for my team to execute this search.

Even if you're just doing one acquisition, building a machine gets better results than going it solo. It also gives you time to do other things (like consulting) while still turning over more leads that most over people.

I'm curious, what was valuable in this? I want to dial in my replies to be even more helpful.

I've used Business Talent Group "BTG" as well. It's a great marketplace with a wide range of available projects. Here is the URL: https://businesstalentgroup.com/. To Yvette's point, it's all about "how". Searching is a full-time job and if you're on a budget then you're going to want to be as efficient as possible going through it. There is also a lot of financial risk in the diligence process...do you have ~$250,000 on hand for diligence and legal fees? I've talked to others in your situation, and most end up raising a traditional search fund after 6-9 months of self-funding and realizing it takes more time and money than expected...
