I'm leaving MBB consulting in the D.C. area, looking for strategy & ops roles for companies / funds that need help running their day-to-day operations and driving their strategic priorities.

Potentially a shot in the dark, but does anyone have advice on how to find roles like that (or have open opportunities)? My preference is to stay in the D.C. area. I've looked at PE port cos as well but this community seems helpful and collegial. Huge thanks to the wonderful Andrea Crane at BigWin Talent for introducing me to SearchFunder!

Numerous PE/VC firms have their own internal talent pools to draw from. One example is Primary Ventures, though they have a lot more roles in the NYC. If you are looking closer to the DC area, I would also take a look at Squadra Ventures (based out of Baltimore), though many firms based in/around DC can be somewhat defense focused. I would definitely try to tap into those networks and find their talent partner or ops portfolio manager or whatever title they might use to find out about the opportunities that aren't posted yet

Make a list of PE/VC firms you are targeting and search LinkedIn for people at these firms who have 'Talent' in their title.

Also suggest you develop a clear story about whether you want to work at a fund or a portfolio co. and why. The Investor and Operator personas are different roles with different skillsets required, and most employers won't look favorably at someone who is not clear on where they want to be.
